UK based singer-songwriter, louderman, gets existential in his new single “God Is In My Bed Tonight”.
The song takes a more cinematic approach in composition with dramatic orchestra strings and choral background singers creating a larger-than-life sound rooted in the vibrations of a church. Written during the pandemic, the song reflects an existential crisis rooted in despair and self-reflection – an attitude that continues to sweep and hold the globe in a suspended state of anxiety.
This is a ballad that revels in the big questions about faith and finding a purpose, “Where is the reason for my life?”, he asks in earnest through the chorus. The metaphor of “God” being in his bed seems to present a double-edged sword where there is blessed reassurance in the same breath as crippling anxiety. The question of “where” rather than “what” is the reason for my life, seems to imply that being spatially confined has dug up these feelings of desolation. “It’s not safe to go outside” he sings in during the bridge, “It’s not safe to be alive / It’s not safe.”
As he grapples with these complex feelings, he finds himself digging into his faith with renewed passion. It seems unclear whether the presence of “God” in his bed will bring him comfort or purpose, but it permeates his dreams and stirs his soul.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
