D.C.-based indie singer-songwriter Mae Krell recently released their second single, “snow.” Their first single of 2021, “are you sure?,” dealt with feelings of inadequacy and frustration over being in a rough situation.
Krell’s music is incredibly personal, and this newest single grapples with the unfamiliarity that comes with newfound happiness and getting better. They describe it as, “When you’re used to being in a negative place, anything that’s good for you feels foreign.”
Recorded during quarantine, the song features Krell’s smooth vocals and spacious live drum production. The song was written on piano rather than guitar, giving Krell the time and space to dig into deep-felt emotions in a genuine and spontaneous way.
