Philadelphia-native James Beasley, otherwise known by his stage name, Maejis Mind, has released his new single “Watch the Rain.” The Los Angeles-based musician and producer unveils his sophomore era with this experimental single, combining influences from R&B, indie rock, and psychedelic rock. This is Beasley’s first single since the debut of his last self-titled EP.
The psych-rock single is a daydream. Vivid and atmospheric, the psychedelic electric guitar and spaced-out synths elicits a peaceful and calming energy, which is solidly emphasized with Beasley’s own vocal abilities. Beasley sings about the limits of the mind and memory, and how change influences us. Reminiscent of some combination of Mac Demarco and Pond, the track is an experimental and drifting tune that lures the listener in from the first few seconds.
“This song is the start of a new style I’ve been taking with my music project – more R&B influenced and storytelling components while maintaining some psychedelia,” said Beasley. “I wrote and recorded all the parts by myself and wanted some of the tracks to sound like they were underwater. The outro jam section was designed to sound like a downpour of rain, bringing cleansing/healing and opening up at the very end of the song.”
