“Sometimes good enough is greater than great!” Jarrett Nicolay offers cheer with the time change this week. Who hasn’t felt the wintertime blues? Sunlight contributes to our happiness more than we know.
My New Mixtape brings a light-hearted sound to spring forward with the song “Daylight Savings”. Nicolay tells us that the inspiration came when he realized the days were getting longer as spring draws closer after a difficult winter. “The sun came out just a little earlier today” gives us an idea of what the artist is feeling as the days go on.
The video for ‘Daylight Savings’ is now streaming. It features the artist going through their day-to-day, in time-lapsed fashion. The song begins with a percussion shaker ticking away, resembling a clock. Of course, one might miss the intention when distracted by the fact that the shaker is a banana. There is a whimsical tone to the video showing the main character that just seems lost in his own space. A minute into the song the video goes from a still shot to layered effects over the time-lapsed videos. We see lava lamp-like colors over images of the artist pacing through a room, playing with a VR headset, and playing the guitar. The Alexandria artist has been making music since his teens and believes he shall be releasing music for years to come. My New Mixtape recently released ‘Running in the Background’ piano-driven tune with a more somber aura. The visuals for the January 2022 song have similar imagery to ‘Daylights Savings’ with layered visuals and bright colors that draw in the audience.
