Recorded from his home studio on The Costa Blanca, Spain, “Water To Wine” is the latest single by singer-songwriter Joe Wilkinson. Very much in the vein of ‘when life gives you lemons,’ Wilkinson says “Water To Wine” is a refusal to give in when the going gets tough, an uplifting rallying cry to anyone tempted to turn back when uncharted waters get too deep.” Written, produced, released, and promoted independently, Wilkinson worked with UK producer Stuart Mannell for mixing and mastering.
Wilkinson’s lyrical play on words in “Water To Wine” alludes to the fact that we could align ourselves to the darkness if we choose, but considers how much more listeners could contribute if they gave themselves over to the light. Once these sentiments are brought into a rhythm-filled sonic landscape of acoustic guitar, bass, percussion, and kalimba, the song feels right at home for fans of artists like Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, Jason Mraz, and fans of Washington D.C. area artist, Eli Lev.
Since making his introduction to the world with his debut single “Freedom or This” in 2016, Wilkinson has performed hundreds of shows across the South of England, Germany, and Spain while receiving press on various independent publications, airplay on BBC, and even working with Netflix on a marketing campaign for their popular show, “Money Heist.” He admits that paying his dues “has often resulted in having to subsist on a diet of beans on toast and coffee,” but now he feels he has the freedom to craft his real and relatable music on his own terms.
