Drawing upon influences from Alternative Rock icons from the 1990s, Jenny Kath’s latest single “Freak Show” taps into everything you could possibly love about the music and lyrics of Nirvana, Hole, Kurt Kobain, and Courtney Love combined. “Freak Show” incorporates a Deftones-like wall of sound with the vocal delivery of Joan Jett in order to call attention to bullying, an experience Kath was herself a victim of.
“I was getting bullied, very badly. I felt like I was a freak and my whole life was a freak show,” says Kath” I had the main role. It’s like being put on a stage without wanting it. I was the one getting attention without wanting it. This is how being bullied feels like. You’re on a freak show.”
Looking to turn this negative into a positive, Kath recruited multi-platinum Dutch producer, Clifford Goilo (Saint Djuni, Bakermat, Jeremy Renner, Bone Thugs n Harmony) to help her craft this nod to 90s ear Grunge and Alternative music delving into one of the most underrecognized and underrated problems afflicting individuals across the globe and having far-reaching negative effects. Kath hopes to show those that might be considered freaks that they are actually the beautiful ones and to never let the actions of another restrict you from being who you need to be in life.
