Longhorne, Pennsylvania alt-rockers, Nothing but a Nightmare, are back with a new cover of Greta Van Fleet’s When the Curtain Falls, which musters all the classic rock goodness one would expect.
Where Greta Van Fleet leans more towards a nicely polished sound, Nothing but a Nightmare digs into something more gritty and crunchy that takes into the realm of Arctic Monkeys or Wolfmother, while still retaining that clear Led Zeppelin-esque foundation. It grooves nicely and gives us everything that made the original version great, while modifying the energetic output just enough to make it distinct.
A modern edge fueled by classic nostalgia has been a hallmark of Nothing but a Nightmare for a while now. Especially if you take a listen to their most recent album Kleptomania, which brings a level of funk to their electric tunes that continues to highlight that modern-meets-classic lineage that they share with Greta Van Fleet.
Overall, it is a solid effort that also takes the band a bit outside of their typical range (especially lead singer, Eddie Tamanini, who does some excellent work distorting his more pop-funk oriented voice to meet the needs of this particular cover). If you need an extra charge of electricity for your day, be sure to give this tune a listen; it is sure to get you energized to tackle the future ahead.
