New York-based singer-songwriter Francis Aud has released his first single of 2022, ushering in his new era with “Selfish.” With inspirations ranging from Al Green, James Brown, and more contemporarily, Bruno Mars, Allen Stone, and Paolo Nutini, Aud has come back into the R&B/pop scene with a bang!
After his debut release of his EP “Tender Things,” Aud started making a type of music he likes to call, “FONK™ MUSIC” – his own unique blend of funk. He has since released and performed his many FONKY™ singles at notable venues such as Bowery Ballroom, Brooklyn Bowl, The Hotel Cafe, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, and alongside Sofar Sounds.
“Selfish” is a groovy, upbeat tune that bridges the gap between R&B and pop. Aud’s unique and intoxicating voice helps carry the high-energy melody, making the single difficult not to bop your head to. With invigorating synth and wonderful lyricism (“Every time you leave, you take a little piece of my peace of mind”), the track is a true FONK™ song.
“This song started out being written from the perspective of a baby being upset about its mother leaving the room,” said the genre-creator. “Unironically, I felt the same exact way during the end of my last relationship so I decided to turn it into a funky little jam to get over it.”
