Raquel Kiaraa’s new pop album, Defying Odds, is out, along with her music video for her leading single “Love Got Me Sick.”
“Love Got Me Sick” features skillful production and catchy lyrics, the perfect combination for a feel-good party aura. Snake imagery and beats reminiscent of Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus throughout her music video allow Kiaraa to carve out a special place in pop just for her.
“It’s about the complexities we all face around love, the darker side of it. I have loved and lost. I have loved and changed,” Kiaraa said of her leading single. “I have loved so thoroughly I could no longer tell where I stopped, and it began.”
The entire album retains a melodic and pulsing energy throughout; the first song, “Running,” is an exceptional album-opener, setting the mood and sound. One of the few songs that break this pattern is “Scorpio – Stripped,” a piano ballad that takes the album toward a more emotional and intimate place.
Kiaraa illustrates her album’s name by learning to sing and play the piano at 32, writing all her lyrics and creating her first album and stepping into motherhood all at the same time. Her mantra, “One cannot rise without lifting others” is a message that is illustrated throughout the entirety of her album.
Her music is playing on many international radio stations, as well as Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud, and other major streaming platforms.
