19 year old Sage Charmaine is back with a new single: “Cross Talk,” preparing for the release of her debut EP. The alternative singer songwriter is back with “Cross Talk”, a techno-pop anthem inspired by the Internet’s favorite video game.
Hailing from Texas, Charmaine has always been inspired by emo music that bends the genre, much to the likes of Rico Nasty, Post Malone, and the late Juice Wrld. These influences are clear in the artist’s work, especially in “Cross Talk.”
The single is a catchy, up-beat pop song that has clear electronic and hip hop influences. The melodic beats underlying the lyrics emphasize the punchiness of it. Sounding similar to the background music in Animal Crossing, “Cross Talk” illustrates the pains of being misconstrued, and how that affects a relationship.
“I wrote Cross Talk at the beginning of 2020 after searching the depths of the internet for a nintendo switch, since covid was just shutting the whole world down & everyone was obsessing over the new Animal Crossings game,” wrote Charmaine. “I was feeling really misunderstood in some personal relationships, almost like everything I was saying or feeling would get “crossed”. It’s a song about wanting to live in peaceful serenity, similar to the island you live on in the game, but it’s hard to keep tranquility when you’re constantly being misunderstood & played.”
