Sam Stacy Calls You ‘Mine’

Singer-songwriter Sam Stacy’s latest track, Mine, is a swooning song that addresses the complexities that lie in a relationship.

The singer, songwriter, and musician grew up in Nebraska, but now makes his tracks from Los Angeles. His introduction to music was a community choir, and then later musical theater. By 12, he taught himself to play guitar. His path was not without adversity, however. He auditioned for Berklee College of Music but was rejected because he learned to play by ear. He continued to pursue music while he earned an economics and business degree. Fast forward to today, Stacy is living out his dream of being a full-time musician.

‘Mine’ explores the difficulty to accept commitment and vulnerability as part of a relationship. His acoustic style is tinged with the catchiness of pop, and influenced by chilled rock.

“Mine” was inspired by one too many long-term casual relationships. I was tired by my own lack of commitment and wanted to write about breaking that cycle. With the snow coming down outside, I set up shop in a cabin in the Roosevelt National Forest, just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park to record most of the song. The songwriting for “Mine” is heavily inspired by Continuum-era John Mayer, fusing intricate guitar parts with simple melodies,” Stacy said.

This track draws on R&B more heavily than any has before. Inspired by Frank Ocean’s ‘Channel Orange’ and Daniel Caesar’s ‘Freudian’, he lays down crooning vocals that make this track stand out.
