The Alchemist
Shira & Friends is an NYC-based “kindie rock” band, specializing in high-energy concerts that will get the whole family dancing.
Growing up right outside of Washington, DC Shira learned to sing from her mom and dad when she was just a kid. Shira’s dad always used to play songs on the guitar (like Johnny B. Goode and Beatles’ songs), and Shira, her mom and her brother, Ari, would sing along. It was only a matter of time before Shira transitioned from singing in her living room to singing on stage.
A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Shira has performed on stage, on screen, in commercials, and she has sung on albums, all while teaching music to young students throughout New York City. Shira & Friends was born when Shira decided to combine her loves of performing and of being silly and creative with her students. Shira enlisted some of the best musicians she knows to be her “Friends”, and all together, they make music that both kids and grown-ups can appreciate and enjoy.
Shira is the band’s frontwoman and songwriter. Since childhood, Shira’s has been passionate about pop music, and it heavily influences her writing. In creating her music, Shira always strives to write tunes with lyrics that kids can understand and relate to, but that adults can’t help but enjoy and maybe even dance to with their kids.
Their newest track is called, “The Maccabees” and it’s got an incredibly groovy vibe to it. It begins with a bluesy guitar feel and evolves into a deeper track when the hook drops, as Shira sings about the Maccabee army. Check out the track below.
