Tara Maclean is a star: in both music and print.
The Canadian singer/songwriter has been an internationally renowned and award-winning recording and touring artist for over 25 years. With six solo albums and two albums with her band, Shaye, Maclean is no stranger to the music industry. She recently received the Senate of Canada medal for her environmental and social justice activist work, as well as SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award and Solo Recording of the Year. She lives in her home province of Prince Edward’s Island, as she “requires the Atlantic ocean for optimal well being.”
Maclean is doing something fresh, however. She will be releasing her first book, Song of the Sparrow, with HarperCollins on March 14th, which she calls “a brutally honest look back at the obstacles she overcame over her life and lengthy musical career so far.” Made to accompany this book is a soundtrack releasing on March 31st.
These songs are a retrospective and retelling of her old tracks, used to put her life in perspective while mining her old tracks for inspiration. The ten tracks on Sparrow are meant to look forward with optimism and transformation.
“The title track, “Sparrow,” is actually the thesis for the whole book. It offers up the idea that nothing is unforgivable – though a lofty concept; it’s the bird’s eye view that Tara is trying to see the world with these days.”
