Fallston, Maryland-based junk (jazz + funk) band, The Never Ending Fall, put on their best indie rock impression with their latest single “Bad Taste”. Posited as the 2023 “Anti-Valentine’s Day” anthem, it marks a moment of transition as the band takes on a more lighthearted, yet edgy LA-centric sound.
At once, the guitars and vocals will have you swooning with chugging off-kilter riffs and a brooding sense of romance in the air. For fans of Neon Trees or Kings of Leon, this will be a must-listen with their larger than life rock sound with light synthetic ambience to fill the space.
At the song’s core is a story about a friend (or past lover) who shows a pattern of getting hooked with questionable partners. As the chorus opens up, the anthemic “She’s got some bad taste in men / I’ll tell it to her face if I see him again”. There’s definitely some confrontational energy that comes through despite the song’s sleek and smooth exterior. The pop hooks carry that indie rock energy which ultimately pack a nice punch both lyrically and musically.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
