San Francisco-native VOHNEY prepares to release his latest single, “Caramel” ft. Katy Kova just in time for the Valentine’s Day season. Listen to the track today with Alchemical Records’ exclusive premiere before its official release on Feb. 15. “Caramel” is the third single after VOHNEY’s debut in 2021 with “Sleepwalker.”
The electro-pop artist takes on many roles: skater, writer, rapper, raver, producer, mental health counselor, outlaw graffiti bomber, opioid addict, drug dealer, caretaker for the elderly, youth mentor, harm reductionist, and high school teacher – just to name a few. The artist uses music as an “anchor” throughout the chaos these last few years have presented. He has been a constant in many music crowds in San Francisco, including the metal club scene and experimental hip-hop at underground renegade raves.
The hyper-pop song has a wonderful use of great production and juxtaposing vocals. Contrasting from the female bubblegum-pop vocals the song starts out with, the song takes a big transition into VOHNEY’s grittier rap vocals. This contradiction, along with the percussive synths and cool bass lines, makes this song a wonderful addition to the hyper-pop genre.
